The Little Office

Published by Dim Bulb

Commentary on the Little Office:

1. Preparatory Prayer (with commentary)

2. Commentary on the Hail Mary.

3. Commentary on the Opening Prayer (Oh, Lord, open Thou my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Thy praise ect.)

The Prayers:

Matins (night prayer. Traditionally, the Little Office was begun after midnight but before sunrise, however, for purposes of private devotion one can recite Matins on the previous evening, early in the morning, or immediately preceding Lauds. If one chooses to begin the office at some other hour, the inviatory, i.e., Psalm 95, is to be said. It opens the Matin prayers.

Lauds (morning prayer. Traditionally prayed before dawn, or in the early morning.)

Prime (no longer used in the modern revision. For private devotion it can be prayed in conjunction with Lauds or Terce.)
